ALL ABOUT MAERSK SEALAND

Being a student of Diploma In Integrated Logistics Management we had learn so much on logistics activities throughout this 4 semester. We are grateful that the knowledge that we grab from our supportive lecturer are happen to give us more explanation on the world of logistics. The definition of logistic itself is the process of planning, implementing and controlling efficiently and effectively the forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information from the point of origin to the point of consumption in order to meet customer requirement. For this post, we are excited to describe more on one of the world largest shipping company which is MAERSK SEALAND.

The history of MAERSK group was founded in 1904 which started as the shipping company. The founders of MAERSK SEALAND are Captain Peter MAERSK Moller and his son Arnold Peter Moller in Svendberg, Denmark. AP Moller had four children, two by each of his two wives. But then in 1939, Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller becomes a partner in the company. Following the death of A.P Moller in June 1965, he became the CEO of the company.

One of the Maersk Line business areas was divided into several segments. Such as, container shipping, training, off shore, oil and gas activities, retail activities and shipyards. Since 1996, MAERSK has the largest container shipping company in the world. MAERSK Line actually covers the worldwide container services, logistics, forwarding solution and terminal activities under the brand names. It does provide almost half of the group revenue in 2008. In 1956, SEALAND company partnership with MAERSK Line which combine together into become MAERSK SEALAND.

The mission of MAERSK SEALAND is simple which is “understand our clients, their business and markets, and offer second to more reliable global ocean transportation service”. Their network is strong with over 470 container vessels, 1.9 million containers, and 25 000 employees is offices in over125 countries including Malaysia. MAERSK SEALAND is committed to sustainability and preserved the environment. They continuously protect the environment through the careful use of resources. To speed the processing of ocean shipment documentation, MAERSK SEALAND offers commerce solution includes Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

In our opinion, we are proudly to say that MAERSK SEALAND gives a lot contribution in the world of logistics. Currently in 2013, the company described itself as the world’s largest overseas cargo carrier. We feel mesmerized of the MAERSK SEALAND services and facilities throughout the years. Without acknowledge it’s actually emphasis all the customer requirement for logistics activities. Thus, after we done the research we intend to be a lead company just like MAERSK SEALAND someday.
